At the intersection of physics, biology, and chemistry, BPH offers a truly interdisciplinary perspective to scientific research with over 40 affiliated faculty spread across 5 colleges/schools and 18 departments who aim to elucidate the fundamental mechanisms underlying biological processes.
- Funding
- Ph.D. students are financially supported as graduate student researchers, teaching assistants, and/or by fellowships.
- Support covers tuition, health insurance, fees in addition to a competitive stipend.
- BPH students are encouraged and supported to apply to fellowships, including NIH-supported training programs that offer field-specific training and financial support. Previous BPH students have been supported by the:
- Pharmacological Sciences Training Program
- Molecular and Cellular Biology Training Program
- Basic and Translational Cardiovascular Science Training Program
- Mentorship & Community
- The BPH program offers a robust support system made up of fellow students and faculty including:
- Peer mentoring from senior BPH students
- Networking and community building facilitated by Biophysical Society Student Chapter
- Counseling from an Academic Advisor regarding courses, career planning, student welfare, etc.
- Mentoring from professors during four 5-week lab rotations
- Continued guidance from a major professor once a lab is selected
